The Life That Now Is
♪ Synced lyrics coming soon
Verse 1
The Spirit spoke, and spoke it low:
in the latter times, some let go,
giving heed to whispering things,
to doctrines dressed in angel wings.
They tell their lies with steady eyes,
a conscience seared, a slow disguise.
Verse 2
They'll forbid the wedding vow,
name the gift a burden now,
call unclean what God called good —
but every creature, understood,
is holy bread when hands are raised,
made clean by the Word and praise.
Pre-Chorus
So refuse the fable, keep the flame,
train the flesh — it fades the same;
the body profits little here...
Chorus
But godliness is gain in every hour,
a slow, unfailing, quiet power —
o hold the promise, hold it fast:
the life that now is, and the life to come,
the life that now is, and the life to come.
Verse 3
Let no man scorn your tender years;
be a lamp against the fears —
in word, in love, in faith made pure,
a good example, tried and sure.
Give your hours to holy reading,
to the doctrine, to the pleading.
Chorus
And godliness is gain in every hour,
a slow, unfailing, quiet power —
o hold the promise, hold it fast:
the life that now is, and the life to come,
the life that now is, and the life to come.
Bridge
We labor on, we bear the scorn,
we trust the God who holds the morn —
the living God, the one who saves,
who calls His many from their graves.
hold on, hold on
Final Chorus
So godliness is gain in every hour,
a slow, unfailing, rising power —
o hold the promise, hold it fast:
the life that now is, and the life to come.
Outro
Take heed, take heed, and don't let go;
neglect not the gift you were given to grow.
Continue on — and this is true:
you'll save yourself, and those who hear you.
The life that now is... and the life to come.
